Monika Möllnitz Gardezi is a Copenhagen-based architect and the founder of Monitz Architecture Studio. She designs homes that become more valuable with time—not simply in financial terms, but in the quality of life they create for the people who live in them.

A graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, Monika has spent more than fifteen years designing bespoke residences, villa transformations, hospitality projects, and regenerative housing concepts across Europe. Whether working with a listed historic property, a contemporary coastal home, or an entirely new residence, she approaches every commission with the same question:

How will this building serve its owners—not just on the day it is completed, but fifty years from now?

One of the formative experiences in Monika’s career was becoming Bjarke Ingels’ first architectural student. It offered an early perspective on a generation of Danish architecture known for questioning convention and embracing bold ideas. While that experience shaped her appreciation for ambitious thinking, her own practice has evolved along a different path—one where ambition is measured not by spectacle, but by longevity.

Today, Monitz Architecture Studio focuses on bespoke homes, villa transformations, and sustainable residential architecture that balances beauty, functionality, and environmental responsibility. Rather than pursuing a recognisable signature style, Monika believes every project should emerge from its landscape, its history, and the people who will inhabit it.

Her design process always begins with listening. Before discussing form, materials, or aesthetics, she seeks to understand how a family lives today—and how that home should continue to support them as their lives evolve over decades.

For Monika, sustainability is not a technology or a certification. It is a measure of whether a building deserves to exist for the next hundred years.

That means creating homes that are adaptable rather than disposable. Choosing materials that weather beautifully instead of requiring constant replacement. Designing spaces that improve daily life while reducing environmental impact. In her view, true luxury is inseparable from longevity.

Every project is developed collaboratively with engineers, craftspeople, landscape architects, and specialist consultants, ensuring that technical performance and architectural quality evolve together from the earliest concept through construction.

Based in Copenhagen, Monika works throughout Denmark and internationally on a limited number of carefully selected residential commissions each year. This allows her to remain personally involved throughout the entire design process, building lasting relationships with every client and ensuring each project receives the attention it deserves.

Her ambition is not to create buildings that immediately announce themselves.

It is to create homes that feel inevitable—places that belong to their landscape, age with dignity, and continue to reward the people who live in them for generations.
